Mon Sheong Long-Term Care Centres

Mon Sheong enjoys a remarkable history in providing quality care services for seniors in Ontario. In May 1975, the Foundation opened the first home for the aged in downtown Toronto.  The building had been holding 65 beds until 1999, with its successful phase of expansion, extended to a total of 105 beds.  The aging population has become a worldwide issue which needs to be addressed.  In 2000, Mon Sheong Foundation was granted permission by the Ministry of Health to create long-term care beds within the Greater Toronto area. The Foundation has since built two new long-term care centres with 192 beds in Richmond Hill and 160 beds in Scarborough, a dramatic addition to the original 105-bed Home on D’Arcy St.  The location of all our centres are specially selected to be close to the Chinese neighbourhood in the city.  The completion of these projects unquestionably alleviates the pressing needs of long-term care by benefiting hundreds of families.

The Mon Sheong Long-Term Care Centres in three locations are state-of-the-art facilities providing the best care for frail seniors, non-seniors with physical and neurological impairment, older couples and seniors affected by dementia.  The centres house different kinds of accommodation including private, semi-private and couple rooms.  In addition to 7-day, 24-hour nursing services, the centres constantly provide special programs to allow residents to enjoy a high quality of life.  The Home’s Multi-disciplinary Team also set up regular meetings with resident families to learn about the needs and make sure that their loved ones receive the best care they can get.

The centres create home-like settings for the seniors, there is space for treasured mementoes in each room and a visual scheme that helps cognitively impaired seniors to find their way easily.  As well, social interaction between seniors is encouraged.  Nursing staff speaking the residents’ language or dialects are always arranged for respective residents.  Furthermore, the dietary plans are also specially designed to suit the tastes of our Chinese residents.

As the waiting term for long-term care service could be a tremendously prolonged one, the centres also provide short term stay services for the families who need to leave their seniors for care in a short period of up to 30 days.  The short term stay is particularly critical to the families that need to take full time care for the seniors.

The completion of our new centres is just a start.  In fact, we still need your generous support to help us meet our mortgage obligations and upkeep our quality services.  "Sharing and Caring With You By Our Side" is our proud theme.  We ask you to make it yours as well.
