 | Chinese New Year Visit by TVB Artist
A wide range of celebration activities were organized by Mon Sheong Foundation during the Chinese New Year. One of the highlights was the visit to Mon Sheong Scarborough Long-Term Care Centre on the second day of the Chinese New Year by DJ Mr. Daniel Ho, TVB artist Mr. Charles Szeto, as well as Ms. Anne Wong and Mr. William Yan from the volunteer group “Joy Offering You” and a number of Mon Sheong’s supporters. There were games and gifts for our residents, along with fabulous singing performances.

| Visit by Ellee Wong
Mrs. Ellee Wong, wife of the late Markham Regional Councillor Tony C. Wong, visited Mon Sheong Richmond Hill Long-Term Care Centre on March 12 with Ms. Rainbow Chan, the second runner-up of Miss Asia Pageant (Toronto) 2007. They sang a number of golden oldies and spent a wonderful day with the residents.

| Mon Sheong Golden Seniors Celebration Banquet
The Mon Sheong Golden Seniors Celebration 2010 was successfully held on the evening of March 26 at the MEC Markham Event Centre, drawing a full house of over 830 guests. Well supported by families of all ages, the event helped promote the traditional Chinese virtue of respecting the elderly among our community. The gala evening was pushed to the climax with fabulous singing performance by Mayor of Markham, Mr. Frank Scarpitti, along with many other wonderful programs by volunteers from “Joy Offering You” as well as staff from the Mon Sheong Home for the Aged, teachers and students of Mon Sheong Foundation Chinese School, and the Youth Group.

| 46 MSF Volunteers Received the Ontario Volunteers Service Awards
A total of 46 MSF volunteers received the Ontario Volunteers Service Awards, with the period of volunteer services ranging from 5 years to 20 years (excluding volunteers from the MSF Youth Group). This annual event aims to recognize and appreciate volunteers across the province for their passion and selfless devotion in volunteer service. Under the umbrella of Mon Sheong Foundation, home volunteers provide assistance in various departments in our three long-term care centres. The Youth Group fully supports all major events and activities of the organization. Parent volunteers of the Chinese School facilitate school administration at the three campuses. Without the active participation and involvement of volunteers, it would be impossible for Mon Sheong Foundation to serve the community with quality services. |
| Fun Run & Walk
Mother’s Day is a special day to honour mothers. It also marked the 24th anniversary of Fun Run & Walk organized by Mon Sheong Foundation. On May 9, participants gathered at the Milliken District Park in Scarborough and raised funds for Mon Sheong. To add excitement to the event, the first-ever Doggie Dress Up Contest was also introduced in the event. Despite the challenging weather conditions, participants succeeded in raising almost $80,000 for Mon Sheong.

| Visit to Mon Sheong Court by City Councillor Mike Del GrandeCity Councillor Mike Del Grande visited Scarborough Mon Sheong Court life lease facility on May 18. Apart from the quality services and equipment of Mon Sheong Court, he also exchanged views with the residents on social welfare and healthcare issues. His visit was welcomed by the residents with encouraging response. |
 | RadiothonCo-organized with Fairchild Radio, Radiothon was broadcasted live in the Mon Sheong Home for the Aged at D’Arcy Street on June 10. Various quality services of the Mon Sheong Home for the Aged were introduced through pre-taped stories of residents and their families, as well as live interviews with staff and volunteers. The event helped the public learn more about the mission and services of Mon Sheong Foundation as well as the goal of the D’Arcy Renovation Campaign. The event was well received, generating more than $38,000 for Mon Sheong.

| Daniel’s Kitchen DVD
To help raise funds for the D’Arcy Renovation Campaign of the Mon Sheong Home for the Aged, the well-known DJ Mr. Daniel Ho volunteered to film the Daniel’s Kitchen DVD package with professional chefs in the GTA community and share cooking tips on 18 dishes with friends in the community. This innovative fundraising initiative was well received by the public.

| Graduation Ceremony of Mon Sheong Foundation Chinese School
The graduation ceremony of Mon Sheong Foundation Chinese School was held in June. Apart from various awards given to outstanding students at different levels of study, Dr. Sim Fai Liu Award for Outstanding Achievement and Ping Shao Quan Award for Academic Achievement were presented to 4 students and 10 students respectively. In addition, Professor Ming Shau Yau Scholarships were awarded to a few students, with the objective of fostering the continuous learning of Chinese culture among our younger generations. |
| Exchanges between MP Michael Chong and Mon Sheong Foundation Youth GroupMP Michael Chong visited Mon Sheong Scarborough Long-Term Care Centre and Scarborough Mon Sheong Court in late July. The facilities and operation of these facilities were highly commended. After the visit, he shared his political experience with over 30 MSF Youth Group members and encouraged them to enhance their understanding of political and social affairs for the benefit of the community. He also advised them to gear themselves up if they wished to pursue a career in the political arena.

| Birthday Celebration for Residents over 100 Years of Age
Mon Sheong Home for the Aged celebrated the birthday of six residents over 100 years of age on July 30, with 26 fellow residents over 90 years old performing in the party to share the joy.

| “MediSystem Mon Sheong Cup” Charity Bowling TournamentOrganized by the Chinese Bowling Congress and co-organized by Mon Sheong Foundation, the “MediSystem Mon Sheong Cup” Charity Bowling Tournament was held on July 31 and August 1 at Club 300 Bowl. Almost one hundred Chinese Canadian bowlers from several provinces competed for the championships and prizes. The funds raised were used to support various community services of Mon Sheong Foundation.

| Mon Sheong TelethonMon Sheong Telethon was broadcasted live nationally on Fairchild TV on September 19. Through a number of inspiring pre-taped stories of our residents, this program enabled the public to better understand Mon Sheong’s mission and its multi-faceted services. We were very thankful for the support of our donors and supporters.

 | Visit by Mayor Dave Barrow on Mid-Autumn Festival
Mayor Dave Barrow of Town of Richmond Hill visited Mon Sheong Richmond Hill Long-Term Care Centre and joined the seniors in celebrating the Mid-Autumn Festival on September 22. Residents were greatly impressed by his kindness and friendliness.

| Master Shan Bai Qin & Students Art ExhibitionThe “Master Shan Bai Qin & Students Art Exhibition” was organized by Master Shan and his 28 students in the Chinese Cultural Centre of Greater Toronto from September 25 to 30. A number of amazing art works were exhibited, with part of the proceeds going towards the D’Arcy Renovation Campaign of the Mon Sheong Home for the Aged.

| Trip to China – Expand Your HorizonsAfter a successful journey in 2009, Mon Sheong Foundation Youth Group organized its second Trip to China – Expand Your Horizons in mid-August, 2010. During this 14-day trip, participants went through cities of Beijing, Shandong and Shanghai. In addition to academic exchanges with students of Peking University and Tsinghua University, they were also benefited by the visits to Lord Mon Sheong Mausoleum in Shandong and elderly homes in Beijing and Jinan.

| Charity Karaoke Dinner 2010“Joy Offering You”, a volunteer group in Mon Sheong Scarborough Long-Term Care Centre, teamed up with its musical friends to organize a charity karaoke feast on October 16. With excellent voices and superb imitation skills, the charity singers made it an enjoyable evening for the guests and raised more than $20,000 for Mon Sheong Foundation. |
| Visit to Mon Sheong Court by Twin Brothers in “The Voice” Competition
Twin brothers Chi-Man and Chi-Hong Chau, participants in the first series of “The Voice” held in Hong Kong, visited Scarborough Mon Sheong Court on October 30. They spent a wonderful afternoon with the residents with songs, games and gifts.

| Donation from Chinese Canadian Legend GalaThe 2010 Chinese Canadian Legend Gala was organized by the Asian Business Network Association on October 30. To mark the 40th anniversary of the official relations between Canada and China, the Asian Business Network Association and the organizing committee of the gala raised $10,000 for Mon Sheong Foundation, which was the first Canadian charity specializing in the Chinese community. Also, the Trip to China program, organized by MSF Youth Group in these two years, has been giving the youth opportunities to understand Chinese heritage and culture.

| Visit by Miss Chinese Toronto Pageant Contestants
Ten Miss Chinese Toronto Pageant contestants visited Mon Sheong Scarborough Long-Term Care Centre on October 29. The young ladies played games and did craftwork with the elderly residents, along with their wonderful performances. The elderly residents also played musical instruments in return for the kind visit of the young ladies. |
| Cathay BallThe 19th Anniversary of Cathay Ball was held on November 6 at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre. Over 1,000 guests, including senior government officials, business leaders and community celebrities, attended the gala in their national costumes in line with the theme of the gala. Apart from dragon dance and drum show, famous singer Ms. Jane Lu also sang with her sweet voice while Mr. Harry Hu fascinated the guests with his face-changing skills. Besides, the Silver Jubilee Awards of Excellence presentation ceremony and the Charity Raffle Draw were held in the gala as well.

 | Community Christmas Party for the SeniorsThe 39th anniversary of the Community Christmas Party for the Seniors was held in the Mon Sheong Home for the Aged at D’Arcy Street on December 5. Complimentary savory festive turkey lunch, fun-filled games and performances, lucky draw, fabulous bring-home gifts were part of the fun the seniors enjoyed that afternoon. |
