Position Summary
Reporting to Administrator, the Activation Supervisor is responsible for the effective management of the social services program, direct and manage social, physical, recreation and leisure programs/ services suitable for residents, and co-ordinate Pastoral Services and Volunteer Services for the residents of the Home.
Main Duties
- Plan, develop, implement and monitor recreation and leisure services using a variety of programs including individual, small and large group, active and passive, leisure, recreation and therapeutic activities.
- Ensure the provision of appropriate quality of leisure and recreation services suited to the abilities, strengths, needs and interests of residents by involving residents in planning of activities, outings, and social functions.
- Set standards as required to meet the FLTCA and regulations requirement, individual residents’ social and psychological needs and their expectations with a resident-driven approach
- Participate in the development of goals and objectives for the Home through strategic planning and for recreation and leisure services.
- Manage the department’s human, financial budget and material resources.
- Ensure accurate documentation of recreation and leisure services for the residents.
- Support and provide direction to Resident Council and Family Counsel (if requested), family support and volunteer services. Participating in the interdisciplinary care meeting for each resident on admissions and annually, and more often as required.
- Meeting on a regular basis with staff, residents, and families to evaluate programs, encouraging innovations and ensuring members function as a team.
- Provide professional development to staff and volunteers including orientation, in-service and continuing education.
- Facilitate and implement Quality Improvement and Risk Management activities
- Co-ordinate recreation services with other internal and external services and/or community agencies.
- Coordinating and directing faith groups’ programs of support to residents by recruiting visiting clergy and volunteers to provide regular ongoing ministry to residents of diverse faiths, cultures and languages.
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- A post-secondary diploma or degree or certificate in recreation and leisure studies, therapeutic recreation, kinesiology, gerontology or other related field from a community college or university.
- At least one year of experience in a health care setting.
- Experience in working with seniors or similar program an asset.
- Knowledge and skills in executing recreation, leisure and restoration programs for seniors with dementia to help improve their care and quality of life.
- Demonstrated leadership, communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in oral and written English and the ability to speak Cantonese/Mandarin is preferred.
- Ability to work well with people in both large and small groups.
- Computer proficiency.
- Knowledge of PointClickCare and Activity Pro an asset.
- CPR certification.
