Cathay Ball 2021 – Caring Beyond Boundaries Bringing forth Love and Care to those around us

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

TORONTO, ON (October 6, 2021) – Today, Mon Sheong Foundation announced that Cathay Ball will be returning on Saturday, November 6, 2021. This prominent event was put on pause last year as the pandemic prevented it from happening. During today’s press conference, held at Mon Sheong Community & Volunteer Services Centre, it was announced that the event would take the form of a virtual event. This year’s theme “Caring Beyond Boundaries” is about bringing the notion of care without limits to people’s minds. All proceeds raised from the evening will go towards Mon Sheong Stouffville Long-Term Care Centre.

During the press conference, Mon Sheong Foundation President, Garth Low, thanked Co-Chairs Teresa Tazumi and Francis Tsui, as well as the organizing committee, for their hard work in creating this event. Low said, “Today is a significant day. Besides announcing Cathay Ball’s return, we are also admitting the first residents into our Stouffville Long-Term Care Centre, providing them with the quality care services that they need. Our Stouffville facility is operational, but this fledgling location is still in need of our support, especially during these unprecedented times. This year’s Cathay Ball is the perfect vehicle for this endeavour. Due to the pandemic, we met many challenges when it came to planning the evening, including moving the event online. There will be games, a virtual photo booth, and more to look forward to. The live show will be hosted at Chinese Cultural Centre of Greater Toronto, and a select number of dignitaries, sponsors and donors are invited to join us for a small-scale special dinner. We hope that our guests can enjoy this year’s Cathay Ball, no matter where they are.”

Since it is difficult to gather this year, Tsui said that the committee decided to create a gift box full of delicacies from across the globe as a way of thanking supporters and donors. Tazumi mentioned Christopher Siu, MasterChef Canada Season 7 winner, would be a special guest for this year’s event, preparing a special dessert for the event. Michael Ciufo, one of Canada’s singing treasures, will be reprising his 2019 performance. The evening will feature a lucky draw with prizes totalling $6,000. A virtual photo booth will be available to guests and the one that wins the “Best Photo Award” will be taking home a Yorkdale Shopping Centre personal styling session and shopping credit.

Diamond Sponsor, MediSystem Pharmacy President, Helen Huh, said, “This year’s Cathay Ball’s theme is about sharing the message of love and care, like the way Mon Sheong has been taking care of those in need for close to 60 years. This is a very meaningful endeavour and is worthy of support.”

David Cheng, Vice President of Mon Sheong Foundation, gave the audience a sneak peek of what the Cathay Ball’s virtual platform will look like. The evening begins at 7:00 p.m. and will feature an online reception, full of games, activities and a special page for Christopher Siu. At 8:00 p.m. the live show begins. At the end of the press conference, Christopher Siu wheeled out a beautiful cake that was made especially for the press conference.

Mon Sheong took this opportunity to thank all sponsors and the community for their support. This year’s sponsors include Diamond Sponsor, MediSystem Pharmacy; Platinum Sponsor, Scotiabank; Ruby Sponsor, CIBC; and more.
