Volunteers are important pillars of Mon Sheong and we need your support every step of the way. From serving at our senior care facilities and Chinese school to helping out at our various fundraising activities, our volunteers are essential to all areas of our work. New volunteers are always welcome and we would love to have you join us as part of the Mon Sheong family. If you would like to help out with any of our initiatives, we invite you to share your skills and experience with us. We would be more than happy to provide you with the necessary training to set you up for success.

Volunteer in Mon Sheong booth

We are very grateful to have a strong and dedicated group of volunteers behind our cause, helping us to care for our seniors, ensuring our work goes smoothly, and enabling us to raise the funds we need for our initiatives. Our efforts would not be the same without their commitment and enthusiasm.

Volunteers provide unique value to complement our staff. Particularly for our seniors, it makes a big difference knowing that someone willingly comes in to spend time with them and enrich their lives. Brightening up the days of the elderly can be very a fulfilling experience; now that they are older, it is our turn to give back and serve them as they once served us.

You can also join us as a way to meet new people and represent the Chinese Canadian community. We make sure to recognize our volunteers who make a meaningful impact, regularly submitting nominations for the Ontario Volunteer Service Awards, and showing them our appreciation through a wide range of activities.

Volunteer playing chess with a senior resident

At Mon Sheong, we have three primary areas where you can make a difference:

Resident Care: Put a smile on our seniors’ faces by interacting directly with them at our long-term care homes, adult day program, private care service, or Mon Sheong Court senior apartments; apply below to be a Resident Care volunteer

Events: Be a part of our signature events, ensure our activities go smoothly, perform at one of our senior care facilities, and more

Chinese School: Help our teachers organize the classroom at our regular campuses or annual summer camp

Volunteering Opportunities resized

The first step to joining us as a Resident Care volunteer is by filling out an application either in person or online. You will then be contacted to set up an interview. Upon a successful interview, you will attend a general orientation session as well as any required in-house orientations to receive the specialized training you need according to your assigned function.

Before being placed, our Resident Care and Chinese School volunteers must pass a police background check and medical check to ensure the safety of our seniors and students. Resident Care volunteers must be 18 years old or older to serve at one of our facilities.
