Position Summary

Reporting to the Administrator of the Home, the incumbent is responsible for the overall operation of the Nutrition and Dietary department to ensure a high level of nutritional care for residents and quality assurance of all the meal services. The Nutrition and Dietary Services staff will be under the incumbent’s supervision.

 

Main Duties

  • Develop nutritional care programs for residents, including nutritional screening and assessment protocols to identify and monitor residents at moderate and low nutritional risk levels.
  • Monitor all procedures for resident meal service to ensure the required standards are maintained.
  • Establish coding for RAI programs and creation of RAP reports.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of the Continuous Quality Improvement Plan for the Nutrition and Dietary Services.
  • Assist in menu planning, catering functions and nutrient analysis.
  • Maintain the resident database and generate associated reports and labels.
  • Supervise the daily activities of Nutrition and Dietary Services including the supervision of staff assigned to the area.
  • Control inventory purchases for good items to be purchased from regulated and approved sources.
  • Organize and participate in in-service training activities as appropriate.
  • Other duties might be assigned from time to time.

 

Qualifications

  • Post-Secondary education in Food and Nutrition Management from a recognized Community College or University.
  • Current membership in the Canadian Society of Nutrition Management.
  • One-year working experience in long-term care facility; supervisory experience required.
  • Solid knowledge of therapeutic nutrition as it relates to the needs of the long-term care population.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Genuine interest in caring of the elderly and the disabled.
  • Ability to work independently without supervision and exercise initiative and judgment.
  • Ability to work as a member of a multidisciplinary team to ensure the well-being of long- term care residents.
  • Good knowledge of the dietary needs of Chinese residents in the LTC (Long-term Care) facility.
  • Proficiency in oral and written English; ability to speak Cantonese/Mandarin is preferred.
