Position Summary:

Reporting to the Activation Supervisor at Mon Sheong Stouffville Long Term Care Centre, the incumbent must assist with the planning and implementation of activities and special events for the residents during the summer.

 

Main Duties:

  • Assist with planning the recreational, cultural and educational programs for our senior residents;
  • Support the resident advocacy program by promoting the Residents’ Bill of Rights in the aspect of raising awareness of senior abuse;
  • Encourage residents’ participation by using humanizing elements (i.e. volunteers, pets, plants, décor, music, etc.) to develop integrated and active lifestyles;
  • Support families and caregivers with their involvement in social and recreational activities.

 

Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in a Social Services, Community Services, Activation, and/or Health Sciences program in a recognized University/College;
  • Ability to work independently as well as a part of a team;
  • Experience working with seniors an asset;
  • Bilingual in English and Chinese required.

 

Other Requirements:

All summer student positions are funded to promote employment opportunities for students, thus the duration of these positions are subject to funding approval. To be eligible for the program, job applicants should meet the following criteria:

  1. Is between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment;
  2. Was registered as a full-time student during the preceding academic year;
  3. Intends to return to school on a full-time basis for the upcoming academic year;
  4. Is a student in a secondary, post-secondary, vocational or technical program;
  5. Is a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act* and;
  6. Is legally entitled to work according to relevant provincial / territorial legislations and regulations.
