Position Summary:

Reporting to the Social Services Coordinator, the incumbent is responsible for providing support on client cases, managing the waiting list, performing community outreach, and assisting with general office administration.

 

Main Duties:

  • Manage the waiting list of potential residents by making updates as needed both in the filing cabinet and computer database;
  • Assist with the organization of health seminars for caregivers in the community and residents in the Home;
  • Record minutes in both English and Chinese languages;
  • Provide support to residents with health challenging issues;
  • Assist in case management and crisis intervention;
  • Other duties as may be assigned.

 

Qualifications:

  • Current enrolment in a post-secondary program in Social Services or related field in a recognized University/College;
  • Experience working with seniors is a strong asset;
  • Experience working in a multi-disciplinary team a strong asset;
  • Strong computer skills;
  • Ability to work independently as well as a part of a team;
  • Proficient in English and Chinese, both oral and written, considered an asset.

 

Other Requirements:

All summer student positions are funded to promote employment opportunities for students, thus the duration of these positions are subject to funding approval. To be eligible for the program, job applicants should meet the following criteria:

  1. Is between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment;
  2. Was registered as a full-time student during the preceding academic year;
  3. Intends to return to school on a full-time basis for the upcoming academic year;
  4. Is a student in a secondary, post-secondary, vocational or technical program;
  5. Is a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act* and;
  6. Is legally entitled to work according to relevant provincial / territorial legislations and regulations.
