Volunteers are important pillars of Mon Sheong and we need your support every step of the way. From serving at our senior care facilities and Chinese school to helping out at our various fundraising activities, our volunteers are essential to all areas of our work. New volunteers are always welcome and we would love to have you join us as part of the Mon Sheong family. If you would like to help out with any of our initiatives, we invite you to share your skills and experience with us. We would be more than happy to provide you with the necessary training to set you up for success.

people all dressed in red tshirt

We are very grateful to have a strong and dedicated group of volunteers behind our cause, helping us to care for our seniors, ensuring our work goes smoothly, and enabling us to raise the funds we need for our initiatives. Our efforts would not be the same without their commitment and enthusiasm.

Volunteers provide unique value to complement our staff. This is especially true for our seniors as knowing that someone willingly comes in to spend time with them and enrich their lives makes a big difference. Brightening the days of the elderly can be an incredibly fulfilling experience; now that they are older, it is our turn to give back and serve them as they once served us.

You can also join us as a way to meet new people and represent the Chinese Canadian community. We make sure to recognize our volunteers who make a meaningful impact, regularly submitting nominations for the Ontario Volunteer Service Awards, and showing them our appreciation through a wide range of activities.

At Mon Sheong, we have three primary areas where you can make a difference:

Resident Care: Put a smile on our seniors’ face by interacting with them at our long-term care homes, adult day program, private care service, or Mon Sheong Court senior apartments.

Events: Be a part of our signature events, ensure our activities go smoothly, perform at our senior care facilities, and more.

Chinese School: Help our teachers organize and manage the classroom at our regular campuses or annual summer camp as a teaching assistant.

Volunteering Opportunities resized

To become a Mon Sheong Volunteer, your first step will be to fill out an application either in-person or online. You will then be contacted for an interview. Upon a successful interview, you will be invited to attend a general orientation session as well as any other required in-house orientations to receive the necessary specialized training you will need for your assigned position.

Before placement, our Resident Care and Chinese School volunteers must pass a police background check and medical check to ensure the safety of our seniors and students. Resident Care volunteers must be 18 years or older to serve at one of our facilities.
