How to Apply:

Step 1: Submit a Volunteer Application

Create a volunteer account on MyImpactPage and complete the online application for the volunteer role(s) you wish to join. You can also download the Volunteer Application Package and send the completed form by email to michellekwan@monsheong.org or by post to Mon Sheong Foundation at Corporate Office, Building C, 11211 Yonge St., Richmond Hill, ON L4S 0E9.

Step 2: Attend an interview

After you have submitted your application, our staff will contact you to arrange an interview. Only one interview is required, even if you apply for multiple programs.

Step 3: Complete Health Screening and/or Vulnerable Sector Screening (If Applicable)

Health Check

Some volunteer positions require the completion of a Health Check. If you are interested in signing up for any of these positions, please take the Health Check Form to your healthcare provider for completion. Please submit the completed form to our Volunteer Coordinator, and then we will assign you to a volunteer role.

Vulnerable Sector Screening

For volunteers aged 18 or above, certain volunteer positions require the completion of a Vulnerable Sector Screening. Details about the Vulnerable Sector Screening process will be explained during the interview.

Step 4: Volunteer Orientation

Online Orientation: Complete the Volunteer Training and Quiz on Surge E-Learning.

In-person Orientation: You Could attend one of our monthly in-person Volunteer Orientation sessions.

Step 5: Begin Volunteering

You are now ready to serve! Our department supervisor will contact you directly to discuss your volunteer schedule and duties.

Volunteering as an administrative assistant for the Mon Sheong Foundation Chinese School staff has been a rewarding experience for Megan. Clerical Support Volunteer

Position Overview:
As a Clerical Support Volunteer at Mon Sheong Long-Term Care Centre, you will assist with various administrative tasks, including data entry, answering phone calls, participating in events, and handling other clerical duties. Your contribution will help ensure smooth daily operations and enhance the overall experience for our residents.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform data entry, filing, and inventory management.
  • Assist with general office tasks and administrative support.
  • Participate in event coordination as needed.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Must be 18 years or older.
  • Full vaccination is recommended.
  • Strong interest in helping residents with compassion, patience, and understanding.
  • Self-motivated, proactive, and detail-oriented.
  • Ability to respect and maintain the confidentiality of clients.
  • Basic computer skills are preferred but not required.
  • Effective communication skills in English, Cantonese, or Mandarin.
  • Willingness to attend additional training sessions as needed.
  • Successful completion of the Volunteer Application process, including Vulnerable Sector Screening and Volunteer Health Screening (must provide TB test results).

Commitment & Locations:

  • Available Monday to Friday for 3-4 hour shifts or as assigned.

Food Service Assistant Volunteer

Position Overview:
As a Food Service Assistant Volunteer, you will help prepare meals for residents and assist in maintaining the kitchen’s cleanliness while adhering to food safety regulations. Your role is vital in ensuring the nutritional needs of our residents are met in a safe and hygienic environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with food preparation for residents.
  • Maintain organization and cleanliness of the kitchen.
  • Ensure proper storage of food items.
  • Follow posted signs and food safety regulations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Must be 18 years or older.
  • Full vaccination is recommended.
  • Passionate about helping residents with compassion, patience, and understanding.
  • Possession of a valid Food Handler Certificate or related certification is required.
  • Basic communication skills in English and Cantonese/Mandarin.
  • Willingness to attend additional training sessions as needed.
  • Successful completion of the Volunteer Application process, including Vulnerable Sector Screening and Volunteer Health Screening (must provide TB test results).

Friendly Visiting Volunteer

Position Overview:
As a Friendly Visiting Volunteer, you will provide companionship and friendship to Residents, helping to reduce feelings of isolation, loneliness, and depression. By engaging in meaningful activities, you will encourage seniors to stay socially connected and make the most of their abilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Participate in mutually enjoyable activities with residents.
  • Foster social connectedness and emotional well-being.
  • Be reliable, punctual, and adaptable to emergencies.
  • Treat residents with dignity, respect, and compassion.
  • Follow organizational policies and procedures.
  • Report any issues, concerns, or incidents to program staff and/or Activation Supervisor.
  • Coordinate visits based on mutual agreement between you and the resident.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Must be 18 years or older.
  • Full vaccination is recommended.
  • A compassionate, understanding, and patient approach to helping residents.
  • Basic communication skills in English and Cantonese/Mandarin are an asset.
  • Willingness to attend additional training as needed.
  • Successful completion of the Volunteer Application process, including Vulnerable Sector Screening and Volunteer Health Screening (must provide TB test results).

Commitment & Locations:

  • One visit per week or as assigned.

Activity Assistant Volunteer

Position Overview:
As a Program Support Assistant Volunteer, you will provide crucial support in the implementation of various activation programs in a group setting. You will assist with the preparation, execution, and quality improvement of programs and work with staff to ensure that all program guidelines are followed, ultimately enriching the experience for residents.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Activation Department with program preparations, including seating arrangements, equipment setup, and other logistics.
  • Support residents with program tasks, ensuring smooth operations during activities.
  • Assist with outdoor activities, such as outings.
  • Deliver newspapers to residents on a daily basis.
  • Complete assigned tasks and report progress to the supervising staff.
  • Escort and assist residents, including wheeling them to and from the activity venue under staff supervision.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Must be 18 years or older.
  • Full vaccination is recommended.
  • A genuine interest in helping residents with compassion, understanding, and patience.
  • Demonstrated dependability, initiative, flexibility, and reliability.
  • Effective communication skills in English; Cantonese or Mandarin is an asset.
  • Willingness to attend additional training as needed.

Chinese school

Every school term, we rely on dedicated volunteers to assist teachers in our classrooms. Your contribution can significantly enrich the learning experiences of our students. We welcome Teacher Assistants who are committed to foster a positive environment for young learners and supporting their studies.

Our three Chinese School campuses operate at the following times:

  • Markham Campus: Saturdays from 8:50 am to 1:20 pm
  • Richmond Hill Campus: Saturdays from 8:50 am to 11:00 am
  • North York Campus: Fridays from 6:20 pm to 8:30 pm

MSYG Christmas Card Writing Volunteer Project 2024

As we gear up for the holiday season, we’re excited to announce a heartwarming opportunity to bring joy to our Mon Sheong seniors through the magic of handwritten cards.

Our winner of the Mon Sheong Youth Group Christmas Card Design Contest, Avallon Tu, has created a beautiful card that encapsulates the spirit of the season. Now, we’re inviting you, our dedicated volunteers, to be a part of spreading this festive cheer.

The Christmas Card Writing Project aims to gather heartfelt messages from our incredible community to share with all Mon Sheong seniors. Your words have the power to brighten their holiday season and remind them of the love and support that surrounds them.

For high school students, you will be able to earn 1 volunteer hour per 5 cards written and decorated.

How to Participate

Volunteers are expected to participate for at least one hour and complete a minimum of five cards. Staying for the entire session is optional. Free parking available at both locations.

Step 2: Write greetings in English and Chinese (if possible) and decorate the card.

Step 3: Earn 1 volunteer hour for every 5 cards written.

Step 4: Cards will be sent to seniors living in Mon Sheong Long Term Care Homes and Private Care before Christmas.

Volunteer Requirement

  • Must be at least 14 years of age
  • Preferred if volunteers can write in both English and Chinese (Volunteers can pair up to write the cards in both languages)
  • Creative and artistic, with the ability to decorate cards using vibrant drawings

Mon Sheong Youth Group

Open to youths aged 16 to 30, the Youth Group offers activities that allow participants to develop volunteering skills while supporting events at the Mon Sheong Foundation. The program aims to cultivate participants’ spirit of leadership and volunteerism under our mission of “caring for the elderly and nurturing the young”.

You will:

  • Learn leadership skills and take on the role of volunteer leaders at events
  • Meet other like-minded volunteers
