Monthly Board Game Social
We are excited to announce the launch of our Monthly Board Game Social, a gathering dedicated to the enjoyment of board games and meeting new friends.
Date: Every third Saturday of each month
Time: 2 p.m. – 6 p.m.
Location: Scarborough Community & Volunteer Services Centre (2020 McNicoll Ave.)
Age Group: 16-30 years old
Free entry and walk-ins welcome! Simply join us on the day and immerse yourself in hours of fun. As a token of our appreciation for your participation, complimentary snacks will be provided to keep your energy levels up while you engage in gameplay and connect with new friends.

Get Involved

We will prioritize applicants who can attend most of the sessions. After application, all applicants will be invited to attend a virtual screening/interview session.
By participating in this program, other than attending the above sessions, participants are also expected to contribute to the planning and organization of their own community event (final project of this program) at their own time. e.g. Attending extra in-person/virtual meetings, spending time to prepare materials for the event, etc.

1. What is the selection process? ▾
Our selection process is designed to ensure the program is a great fit for your personal goals and to help us tailor our workshop content to your needs. The process involves two simple steps:
- Step 1: Virtual Interview – A quick, 1-on-1 online conversation so we can get to know you, discuss your goals, and ensure the program aligns with what you are looking for.
- Step 2: Cohort Selection – To ensure high-quality participation and a close-knit learning environment, each cohort is capped at 20 participants. Because space is limited, priority is given to applicants who can commit to attending all scheduled sessions.
When will I hear back?
All applicants will receive an email update with their results by the end of June.
2. What are the expectations for participants? ▾
This isn't a traditional classroom—there are no tests, and it isn't a lecture series where you just sit back and watch! We look for participants who are ready to dive in and actively shape their own experience. We expect everyone to bring:
- An Open Mindset: A readiness to learn, collaborate closely with peers, share wild ideas, and step outside of your comfort zone.
- Active Ownership: A commitment to moving from a passive spectator to a proactive creator. We want you to bring your energy and take real ownership of the exciting projects we will build together.
3. What is the required weekly time commitment? ▾
We know you have a busy schedule! The program is designed to be highly focused and productive, meaning if you make the most of our face-to-face time, you won't need to spend much extra time outside of sessions.
The weekly commitment varies slightly by phase:

July - September (Summer Phase): ~4 hours per week
This includes our weekly in-person session and brief team check-ins to collaborate on planning.

October - November (Fall Phase): 2-4 hours per week
The time commitment drops slightly as we shift our focus from planning to executing and delivering our events.
4. I turn 14 in August. Am I still allowed to apply? ▾
Absolutely! We prioritize your maturity, attitude, and readiness over the exact date on your birth certificate.
If you are excited to challenge yourself, ready to collaborate with a team, and eager to take initiative on hands-on projects, we highly encourage you to apply. We care about what you are ready to bring to the table, not just your age!
5. Does this program count toward my high school community involvement / volunteer hours? ▾
Partially! You can absolutely earn high school volunteer hours through this program, but only for the practical, hands-on portions. Here is how it breaks down:
- What counts: Hours you spend actively running, executing, shadowing, or volunteering at our scheduled real-world events are fully eligible for community involvement hours.
- What does not count: The summer workshop sessions and team meetings are considered educational professional development and a learning process, so they do not qualify as community service hours.
We are happy to sign off on all eligible practical hours you complete during the execution phase!
6. What is the cost of the program? ▾
The Youth Empowerment Leadership Program (YELP) is completely free for all selected participants!
Thanks to the support provided by the Mon Sheong Foundation, there are no registration fees or hidden costs. We cover:
- All workshop materials and training resources.
- Professional mentorship throughout the program.
- The entire execution budget for the real-world events your team will be launching.
All you need to bring is your commitment, energy, and ideas!
7. What if I have a planned family vacation or exam week? ▾
We understand that summer vacations and school priorities happen! While we want to support you through these busy times, open communication and teamwork are essential. Here is how we handle scheduling conflicts:
- Open Communication: Please let us know about any planned conflicts or trips during your 1-on-1 interview so we can discuss them together.
- Team Accountability: Because you will be working closely with your peers on hands-on projects, you must keep your teammates actively informed. This ensures your group can adjust roles and support each other smoothly while you are away.
Please Note: Because each cohort is limited to 20 participants and involves close team collaboration, priority during the selection process will be given to applicants who have greater overall availability and are able to commit to the most sessions.

The Youth Executive (YEX) Council serves as the senior leadership heart of the Mon Sheong Youth Group. Representing the pinnacle of our leadership pathway, the Council bridges the gap between active youth participation and professional community leadership. Together, we build, support, and inspire the Mon Sheong Youth community.

What We Do: Annual Flagship Events
To maintain a high-impact presence in the community, the YEX Council commits to planning and executing at least two major events per calendar year:

The MonSee Lunar New Year Fair : As our absolute flagship event, the Council takes full responsibility for roadmap development, logistics, and vendor coordination.

Secondary Signature Events: Designing and leading high-level activities tailored to community needs—such as professional networking summits, cultural showcases, or seniors’ engagement galas.
How We Operate
Joining the YEX Council is an opportunity to develop professional-grade executive skills in a supportive environment:

Project-Based Leadership: For every major initiative, a designated Project Lead takes the helm, while all other members form an agile Execution Team to support the portfolio.

Meeting Excellence: Members attend mandatory monthly executive meetings dedicated to strategic decision-making and project roadmaps.

Term Commitment: To ensure project continuity from the initial planning phase through to final evaluation, members commit to a minimum one-year term.
How to Get Involved
Membership is granted through a structured process designed to find passionate, dedicated young leaders up to the age of 30. There are three ways to join the Council:

About Hanamizuki Florist:
From Hong Kong to Toronto, I have dedicated over 9 years to floral design, specializing in dried and preserved flowers. I believe in “Preserved Souls with Aesthetics” — preserving the beauty and soul of real flowers through creations that symbolize everlasting love.
Our shop is one of the few Certified Overseas Preserved Academies recognized by the AUBE Japan Preserved Academy in North America.
All preserved flowers are REAL flowers and can be kept for 3-5 years.
Other than a florist, I am also a Registered Social Worker/therapist with horticultural therapy background, and founder of Floral Therapy. I use flowers and plants as healing mediums to promote emotional well-being.

Handcrafted Pottery Charity Sale
For the residents of Mon Sheong Scarborough Long-Term Care Centre, pottery is more than decorative art. Each piece reflects their creativity and patience. Through the process of shaping clay, residents not only express their imagination and strengthen finger muscles, but also connect with others by sharing their thoughts and joy in their work. For seniors facing gradual physical decline, this meaningful creative journey becomes a source of strength that enriches and supports their daily lives.
This charity sale features pottery handcrafted by our residents. All proceeds will support the new facility fundraising initiative, Mon Sheong “Because We Care” Campaign, helping to build two new care homes and embodying the spirit of “From Mon Sheong, For Mon Sheong,” as we continue to extend compassion and serve the community.
The Pottery Charity Sale Booth will be available from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. at the MonSee Fair 2026.
