Mon Sheong Walk & Fun 2026 Garnered Immense Support for Seniors

Mon Sheong Walk & Fun concluded with huge success on Saturday, June 6, 2026, at the Richmond Green Sports Centre & Park. Over 900 participants walked to support Mon Sheong Foundation’s Because We Care Capital Campaign, raising vital funds for the develoment of new long-term care centres. Close to 20 dignitaries from all three levels of government officiated the opening ceremony. Following the charity walk, a vibrant Fun Fair welcomed the public with game booths, an inflatable playground and live performances. It was a day for all ages to embrace summer with family fun and community purpose.

“This year’s Walk & Fun marks our 40th year of walking together as a community to build a brighter, better future for our seniors. This annual event raises the crucial funds needed to drive Mon Sheong Foundation’s development of new long-term centres,” said Tim Kwan, Chairman of Mon Sheong Foundation. “Our Markham Long-Term Care Centre has reached the final stage of construction, which is expected to conclude in mid-2026. The 320-bed facility has been officially listed with Ontario Health atHome since April 21. It is slated to open in fall this year. Meanwhile, construction of our second location in Richmond Hill is also in full swing. The 288-bed care home is expected to be completed by the end of 2027.”

Garth Low, President of Mon Sheong Foundation, added, “Our upcoming long-term care centre in Markham marks a significant expansion of our footprint in the city. The 11-storey facility will also stand as Markham’s largest long-term care centre and its design is calibrated around the principle of resident-centred care. We hope the community will continue to support our endeavours to develop more new facilities so that more people get access to the high-quality care they need sooner.”

The charity walk followed a scenic nature trail loop within Richmond Green Park, where fundraising teams formed by families, friends, corporates and community organizations walked to support our seniors. Participants who completed the walk were awarded medals to celebrate their achievements.

“We are grateful to see such an impressive turnout, with multiple generations coming together for a meaningful cause,” said Mon Sheong Foundation First Vice-Chair and Event Co-Chair Doris Chan, “we want to thank the community for their generous support and everyone who stepped up to support our seniors. Our Fun Fair featured a wide range of activities designed to appeal to the whole family: an inflatable playground, a massage station, a Pilates station, a face painting booth, a photo booth, and game booths with exciting prizes. Supporting the growth of long-term care facilities was a key theme integrated into many of our games. Visitors also enjoyed fairground staples such as cotton candy, popcorn and pizza, along with live performances of Zumba, line dance and singing. We are glad to see these activities proved to be immensely popular among participants of all ages. We hope this event successfully highlights the Foundation’s mission and continues to garner public support.”

Board Member and Event Co-Chair Andrew Banh expressed deep gratitude to Power Match Donor, The Chow Family, for doubling the impact of our fundraising efforts. He added, “We want to thank
