On March 12, 2026, Mon Sheong Foundation held the Grand Opening Ceremony of its Dr. Paul Woo Long-Term Care Centre in the Town of Whitchurch-Stouffville. The Honourable Natalia Kusendova-Bashta, Minister of Long-Term Care; the Honourable Paul Calandra, Minister of Education, MPP of Markham—Stouffville; and Mayor Iain Lovatt of Whitchurch-Stouffville attended the Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony. Following the ceremony, the Ministers joined Mon Sheong leadership for a guided tour of the state-of-the-art facility. With the addition of 224 new beds at this facility brings Mon Sheong Foundation’s total capacity in Stouffville to 544. The new 224-bed facility complements the existing 320-bed centre located immediately adjacent. As the region’s leading provider of long-term care, Mon Sheong is dedicated to meeting the growing needs of the local community.
“With the addition of 224 new care beds at the Dr. Paul Woo Long-Term Care Centre, we now operate a total of 1,001 beds across five locations, making us the largest non-municipal, non-profit long-term care provider in Ontario,” said Tim Kwan, Chairman of the Mon Sheong Foundation. “We are dedicated to expanding quality senior care to those in need, and our active development of new long-term care centres is made possible by the unwavering support of all levels of government, sponsors, donors, and the community.”

This eight-storey facility was designed with a focus on safety and comfort. It incorporates enhanced Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) features, including individual Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) units in every room. All rooms—including basic rooms—are equipped with private en-suite bathrooms.
Every room is equipped with a Real-Time Location System. Should a resident require assistance in their room or bathroom, or if a caregiver needs backup, pulling the alarm will trigger alerts. This notification displays the exact location on screens at the nursing station and on indicator lights outside the resident’s room.
There are also physiotherapy and activity rooms on each floor. The facility boasts a hair salon, a worship hall, an outdoor courtyard, and scenic pond views—offering a tranquil environment with comprehensive, top-tier amenities. While Mon Sheong has deep roots in the Chinese community, this new home is dedicated to serving the diverse needs of all ethnic groups within the region, providing top-tier care to all those in need.
Dr. Paul Woo Long-Term Care Centre began welcoming residents in stages last October and has now reached full capacity. Many of the residents are critical care cases. By the end of February, the facility is home to six centenarians; with the oldest resident aged 102 years old and the youngest aged 47. The overall average age is 85.91. Most notably, the facility currently houses 11 couples—a rare and heartwarming milestone for a long-term care setting.
Dr. Paul Woo Long-Term Care Centre is Mon Sheong Foundation’s second facility in Stouffville. Following its groundbreaking in the fall of 2023, construction was completed in May 2025—a full year ahead of the government’s projected timeline. Despite this rapid delivery, the demand remains critical. Over 1,400 people are already on this centre’s waitlist.
Mon Sheong continues its commitment to meeting the needs of Ontario’s aging population. Construction of the Foundation’s new facilities in Markham and Richmond Hill is in full swing, with completion expected by mid-2026 and late 2027, respectively. These two facilities will collectively add 608 new care beds to the community. In February this year, Mon Sheong was awarded an additional 576 bed licences for two long-term care projects, slated for development in Markham and Stouffville.
