Mon Sheong Dr. Paul Woo Long-Term Care Centre in Stouffville (located at 168 Sandiford Drive, adjacent to the Mon Sheong Stouffville Long-Term Care Centre) has passed extensive inspections by both provincial and municipal governments. Ministry of Long-Term Care has approved the new facility to begin admitting residents on October 14, welcoming its first group and offering 224 new long-term care beds to the community. With the addition of this new facility, Mon Sheong now operates a total of five long-term care homes, offering 1,001 long-term care beds in total — making it the largest non-profit operator of long-term care beds in Ontario

Mon Sheong Dr. Paul Woo Long-Term Care Centre is Mon Sheong Foundation’s second long-term care home in the Town of Stouffville. Construction began in the fall of 2023 and has progressed smoothly since then. The project was officially completed at the end of May 2025 — a full year ahead of the government’s original timeline. The centre will begin welcoming residents in phases starting October 14.

This 8-story new facility is designed with a focus on providing resident-centered care which takes care of the diverse needs of residents. The state-of-the-art facility offers enhanced Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) measures: individual Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) units are installed in every room. Basic rooms are upgraded with an en-suite washroom and maintain the basic room rate. While requiring a higher construction cost and usage of space, these upgraded rooms offer increased safety and privacy for all residents.

The new centre is not limited to serving only the Chinese community; it aims to meet the needs of diverse groups within the broader community, ensuring that those in need have access to quality long-term care services.

Since March 2025, the Mon Sheong Dr. Paul Woo Long-Term Care Centre resident waiting list has been open for applications through Ontario Health atHome. To date, the number of people on the waiting list has exceeded 1,400, including a high number of crisis cases, highlighting the continued and urgent demand for long-term care beds in the community.

There are currently over 48,000* people in Ontario waiting list for a long-term care bed. Among them, the combined waiting list for Mon Sheong’s five long-term care homes has exceeded 10,000, accounting for one-fifth of the provincial total. This clearly demonstrates the public’s strong trust and recognition of Mon Sheong’s long-term care services. This pressing situation has motivated Mon Sheong to continue pushing forward to actively plan and build more long-term care centres. One such project — a new Markham centre with 320 beds — is expected to be completed next year. Another new centre in Richmond Hill, offering 288 beds, is also ready to proceed pending government approval.

Each new facility requires a significant amount of funding to develop. Mon Sheong urgently needs the support of the community to help drive forward its “Because We Care” capital campaign, so that more people in need can benefit as soon as possible.
