On August 12, Mon Sheong Foundation held the 2026 Mon Sheong Golden Jubilee Scholarship Award Ceremony at the Mon Sheong Volunteer and Community Services Centre in Scarborough. Two outstanding Ontario high school graduates were each awarded a scholarship valued up to $4,000 to support their post-secondary education.
Established to recognize exceptional young individuals who demonstrate outstanding academic achievement, a strong commitment to community service, and a desire to make a positive impact on society, the Mon Sheong Golden Jubilee Scholarship aims to nurture future leaders who are courageous, visionary, and innovative.
The recipients of the 2026 Mon Sheong Golden Jubilee Scholarship are:
Kallem Manning
Kallem Manning has been a dedicated advocate for bridging the gap between mainstream and special education, with a particular focus on supporting students with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDDs). He has actively promoted initiatives such as Best Buddies, Cultural and Community Week activities, and Relay For Life fundraising events at his school, raising awareness of the needs of students with disabilities while fostering greater communication, inclusion, and engagement between special education and mainstream students.
Despite his profound commitment to community service, Kallem stands as an all-round scholar by achieving a 100% average on his top 12 Grade 12 subjects. He plans to pursue a degree in Health Sciences at McMaster University, where he hopes to continue advocating for individuals with IDDs. Aspiring to become a developmental pediatrician, Kallem aims to reimagine a holistic approach of developmental healthcare, which covers social interaction, critical thinking and developing a sense of purpose and identity for individuals with IDDs.
Grace You Shen
Grace You Shen began serving as a Student Senator for the Halton District School Board in Grade 8, representing students on issues such as artificial intelligence policies and mental health breaks. Driven by her passion for educational technology, Grace participated in Python’s Pit, a business and innovation pitch competition for high school students. She won the contest with “Game2Learn”, a gaming platform she designed for education.
At the same time, Grace excelled academically, achieving an outstanding 99% average across her Grade 12 core subjects. She plans to attend the University of Waterloo to study Computer Science, with a focus on game design and business. Through educational technology, she hopes to transform traditional approaches to teaching and learning.

“The purpose of the Mon Sheong Golden Jubilee Scholarship is to recognize and reward exceptional students. Our selection committee, composed of university professors and academics, evaluated applicants based on their academic achievements, involvement in community service, strength of character, leadership skills, and innovative spirit. We hope this scholarship will encourage the recipients to continue pursuing excellence, develop their talents, and make meaningful contributions to their communities in the future.”
Guided by its mission of Caring for the Elderly and Nurturing the Young, Mon Sheong Foundation established the Mon Sheong Golden Jubilee Scholarship to encourage youth to pursue their dreams while giving back to society. This year’s recipients have demonstrated exceptional dedication, passion, and determination to help build a brighter future.
The Foundation extends its sincere gratitude to this year’s judging panel: Professor Brad Klump of Humber College, Professor Peter Wang of the University of Toronto, and Dr. Jack Leong of York University. They all generously contributed their time and expertise to review more than 220 applications to select this year’s recipients.
