Founded in 1968, Mon Sheong Foundation Chinese School is one of the largest private Chinese schools in Canada. With three conveniently located campuses, we offer in-person and online classes in Cantonese, Putonghua and mathematics, as well as a Chinese Immersion Summer Camp.

There are fifteen levels of instruction in the Chinese program for children aged 3 and above. Beyond teaching students to read, write and speak the language, we also seek to immerse them in Chinese culture, helping them understand the value of Chinese heritage within Canada’s multicultural society.

Since 1969, Mon Sheong Youth Group has provided teenagers and young adults with many opportunities to develop leadership and cooperative skills. In 2002, the Youth Chapter (age 14­–17) and Young Leaders’ Chapter (age 18–30) were introduced, allowing us to create dedicated programs and activities for high school students, postsecondary students and young professionals. The two chapters meet regularly to contribute to Mon Sheong’s charitable projects in a spirit of fun, goodwill and community.

At Mon Sheong Foundation, the support of volunteers is essential in every step of our journey. From serving on the Board of Directors to helping out at our senior facilities, Chinese School and various fundraising activities, our volunteers are essential in all areas of our work. Opened in 1975, the longstanding Mon Sheong Home for the Aged on D’Arcy Street in downtown Toronto is the first care home for the Chinese community in Ontario. The completed expansion in 1999 increased the Home’s capacity from 65 to 105 care beds.

To meet a growing demand for senior services, we built the Richmond Hill Home in 2003, offering 192 care beds, and the Scarborough Home in 2004, offering 160 care beds. The Stouffville Home, opened in 2021, offers 320 beds. With the opening of the Dr. Paul Woo Long-Term Care Centre in 2025, we provide 1,001 long-term care beds—making Mon Sheong the largest non-profit operator in Ontario.

Our 320-bed Markham Long-Term Care Centre is expected to reach completion in spring of 2026. Lastly, a 288-bed new Home in Richmond Hill is currently in preparation, waiting for Ministry’s approval to start construction.

The facilities provide quality care services for seniors, physically or mentally disabled individuals, and those with dementia. Our Homes meet regularly with our residents’ families to communicate and discuss the needs of the residents.

Today, our community’s demand for elderly services is at its highest. More than any other time in the history of Canadian healthcare, there is an urgent need today to provide for the elderly. There are currently over 9,000 Canadians on our waiting lists for care. On average, people who require our services need to wait for five to seven years to be admitted.

Mon Sheong Home for the Aged, Richmond Hill, Scarborough and Stouffville Long-Term Care Centres have all received the three-year accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF), its highest level of quality care excellence, signifying our commitment and determination in providing excellent care service to both residents and their families.

Our two Community & Volunteer Services (CVS) Centres provide a welcoming space for volunteers, Youth Group members and seniors to gather, socialize and build meaningful friendships, while enjoying an extensive list of programs, seminars and recreational courses. Community members aged 50 and up are welcome to join the Senior Circle. Friends in the Senior Circle enjoy access to the CVS Centres’ facilities and activities, as well as discounts on recreational course fees.

The Mon Sheong Court senior apartments are designed to accommodate the needs of seniors who desire a more active and independent way of life shared with likeminded community members. The life lease units provide an alternative housing option for seniors aged 55 and up.

A 24-hour monitoring system with an emergency medical alert call system is installed in each suite and along the corridors. The suites are designed to suit the specialized needs of seniors, with convenient meal delivery services available to cater to their dietary requirements. The buildings also contain a well-equipped recreation centre, an elegantly furnished dining room, a library, and an on-site clinic and pharmacy, allowing our residents to access a full range of amenities and comforts within Mon Sheong Court.

Following the success of Scarborough Mon Sheong Court, Richmond Hill Mon Sheong Court was completed in 2014 with 353 senior apartments. The first phase of Markham Mon Sheong Court, located on Sun Yat-Sen Avenue, welcomed its first residents in 2016. The second phase was completed in 2018 with total 668 units provided. Markham Buttonville Mon Sheong Court with 337 units is currently under construction and expected to be completed in 2026.

Following the success of Scarborough Mon Sheong Court, Richmond Hill Mon Sheong Court was completed in 2014, providing 353 units to the community. And the first phase of Markham Mon Sheong Court, located on Sun Yat-Sen Avenue, welcomed its first residents in 2016, adding more than 460 units; completion of the second phase is expected in 2018.

The innovative Mon Sheong Care Complex, the first of its kind for the Chinese community, is located in  Richmond Hill. The facility house our Private Care and Charity Care services, providing an alternative to address the significant demand for long-term care services.

Our Private Care centre provide 92 care units respectively in state-of-the-art facilities, available for either a short-term stay or longer-term accommodation. Regular amenities include 90 minutes of individually tailored professional care services daily, nutritious meals and snacks, and 24-hour security and nursing personnel on duty. As Private Care is not funded by the government, applicants are not required to go through the usual long-term care waiting lists.

Our Charity Care service is also independent from government funding. The program delivers  support services, similar to those offered by Private Care, to seniors in financial need who are waiting for a long-term care bed. With an aging population on the rise, we hope to provide an alternative means of care for seniors and their families. Please support us to ensure that these services can help those who need it most.
