CNY Lion Dance at Long-Term Care Centres

Residents of Mon Sheong Long-Term Care Centres and Private Care Centres dressed up to celebrate the first day of the Chinese New Year. Hong Luck Kung Fu Club had two lions performing at the front of Mon Sheong Home for the Aged and Stouffville Long-Term Care Centre. The dances were live broadcast through social media so that residents and the public could enjoy these festive performances at the comfort of their home.

Radiothon

Mon Sheong Radiothon, partnered with Sing Tao A1 Chinese Radio, was held on March 17 and raised over $340,800 to support building of our new long-term care centre in the Markham Senior Care Campus.

New Bed Licences Announcement

Hon. Paul Calandra, Minister of Long-Term Care announced on March 18 that Mon Sheong had been allocated another 128 long-term care bed licences for the Markham Long-Term Care Centre located at our Markham Senior Care Campus. With this addition, the Markham Long-Term Care Center will be offering a total of 320 care beds for the community, making it the largest long-term care centre in Markham. In addition, 244 long-term care bed licences were also allotted to Phase II facility of Mon Sheong Stouffville Long-Term Care Centre.

Fun Run & Walk

Fun Run and Walk

Mon Sheong Foundation held a Kick-Off Ceremony on June 1 at the Multi-Purpose Hall at Stouffville Long-Term Care Centre to announce the start of Fun Run and Walk Online Challenge. The month-long Challenge raised over $146,000 to support the new Long-term Care Centre in Markham!

David West, Mayor of Richmond Hill, visited the residents of Mon Sheong Court on July 4. Mayor West enjoyed the friendly chats with residents to learn about their needs and a tour of the residence afterwards.

Summer Camp

The theme of Chinese School Summer Camp 2022 was “Learn from Life”. Children were encouraged to learn and appreciate Chinese language and culture through exploring their surroundings. On August 3, students showcased their knowledge and talents that they learnt over the past four weeks. Their parents were smiling from ear-to-ear, and the teachers were proud to see the many accomplishments of their students!

Golden Jubilee Scholarship Awards

The 2022 Golden Jubilee Scholarship Awards Ceremony was held at Scarborough Community & Volunteer Services Centre on August 5. Golden Jubilee recipients received a total of $4,000 scholarship throughout four years of their postsecondary education. Congratulations to the new recipients David Zhuang and Emily Liu. Dr. Jack Leong and Professor Brad Klump from the panel of judges and a few members of the alumni were delighted to share their experiences.

MP Taylor Roy visited Mon Sheong Court residents and Summer students

MP Leah Taylor Roy visited Richmond Hill Mon Sheong Court residents and toured the senior residence on August 12. She also met with our Summer Students and was happy to learn about their experiences in Mon Sheong. Moreover, she presented Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Commemorative Pin and Certificate to our Senior Administrator Stella Leung, and two dedicated volunteers Irene Chau; and Teresina Chan, recognizing the significant contributions they made to the community.

Mon Sheong Foundation’s representatives were honoured to receive the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Commemorative Pin and Certificate. Hon. Mary Ng, Minister of Small Business, Export Promotion and International Trade of Canada presented the Pin and Certificate to Dr. Samuel Lam, Chairman Emeritus of Mon Sheong Foundation; Tim Kwan, Chairman; Doris Chan, First Vice-Chair; Stephen Wong, Second Vice-Chair; Garth Low, President; Dennis Au-Yeung, Chair of Honourary Governors; Frank Chau, Special Advisor to the Board; Stephanie Wong, Chief Executive Officer and Eumie Leung, Chief Operating Officer, recognizing the significant contributions they made to the community.  Mon Sheong also proudly nominated a few dedicated supporters to receive this pin as a recognition to their continuous contribution to the community.

The Mon Sheong Golf Classic was held at Bayview Golf & Country Club on September 1. This fundraising event was a great success, raising $140,000 to support the building of Markham Long-Term Care Centre! Thank you for the support of all sponsors and golfers!

Golden Seniors Celebration

Golden Seniors Celebration was held on Mid-Autumn Festival, September 10, at Mon Sheong Scarborough Community and Volunteer Services Center. Fifty seniors aged 75 and above enjoyed the in-person luncheon, games and performances while hundreds of community seniors, with their family and friends, joined this festive show through a livestream broadcast.

100th Birthday Party

Mon Sheong Home for the Aged held the 100th birthday party for the six centenarians and their families! For the first time since pandemic began, family members across generations gathered for a touching and heartwarming celebration with their seniors.

Scarborough Home Celebrates 18th Anniversary

Scarborough Long-Term Care Home celebrated its 18th birthday with a series of Hong Kong themed activities. A visit by Hong Kong Red Taxi was a nice surprise. Street snacks like curry fish balls and egg waffles filled our seniors’ bellies and the day was filled with sweet memories from the Hong Kong days.

The 30th Anniversary of Cathay Ball was held on November 5, 2022, with the theme of “Honour Yesterday. Nurture Tomorrow.” to reflect our past builds our future. Proceeds raised are to support the building of upcoming Markham Long-Term Care Centre.
