2023 Highlights
Minister of Seniors and MP visit
Minister of Seniors, Hon. Kamal Khera and MP of Aurora—Oak Ridges—Richmond Hill, Leah Taylor Roy visited the Richmond Hill Mon Sheong Court seniors at the coffee morning and interacted with the residents at Qigong class.
Radiothon
Mon Sheong Radiothon, partnered with Sing Tao A1 Chinese Radio, was held on March 23 and raised over $230,800 to support building of our new long-term care centre in the Markham Senior Care Campus.
Fun Run and Walk
Mon Sheong Foundation successfully brought together over 300 guests and supporters at Richmond Green Sports Centre & Park for the highly anticipated Fun Run & Walk 2023 on June 17. This event marked a significant milestone as the community gradually emerges from the pandemic, embracing a return to normalcy. Accompanied by their families, hundreds of enthusiastic participants joined in, creating a vibrant and joyous atmosphere in support of Mon Sheong’s great cause. Dignitaries from the three levels of government, including Hon. Mary Ng, Minister of International Trade, Export Promotion, Small Business and Economic Development, Hon. Michael Parsa, Minister of Children, Community and Social Services, Mayor David West of City of Richmond Hill, and Deputy Mayor Michael Chan of City of Markham, graced the event, showing their support on Mon Sheong’s endeavours.
Youth Empowerment Leadership Program
Supported by RBC Foundation, Youth Group organized the Youth Empowerment Leadership Program from July 2023 to March 2024. Through interactive workshops, mentorship, and hands-on event management, youths were acquired a comprehensive set of leadership and event management skills. Unleash their creativity and made a positive impact in the community.
Richmond Hill Long-Term Care Centre 20th Anniversary
Celebrating 20th Anniversary of Richmond Hill Long-Term Care Centre! We had lion dance performances and games booths on June 30 to celebrate the big day.
Mon Sheong Home for the Aged “Pieces of Love” Art Project
Home for the Aged invited renowned artists, volunteers, and family members of residents to gather at the rooftop garden for the kick off of “Pieces of Love” art project. With this theme, residents and guests collaborated on creating unique artworks. Art pieces will be displayed as ceiling tiles at the Home, transforming it into a vibrant, creative, and beautiful living space.
Chinese Immersion Summer Camp
Under the theme of “Exploring the Global Village”, students learn different knowledge in various classes. Students are immersed in interactive workshops filled with fun and excitement.
Golf Classic Tournament
More than a hundred golf enthusiasts gathered at Bayview Golf and Country Club on August 24, swinging their clubs vigorously to raise over $200,000 as funds for the construction of the new Mon Sheong Long-Term Care Centre in Markham and the new Long-Term Care Centre in Stouffville.
Golden Jubilee Scholarship Award
Mon Sheong Foundation rewards two talented high school graduates Jin Xuan Zhou and Caleb Lo with the Golden Jubilee Scholarship awards of $4,000 each towards their post-secondary tuition on August 15. Dr. Jack Leong, one of the judging panel members and past award recipients also delighted to share their experience.
Markham Long-Term Care Centre Groundbreaking Ceremony
Mon Sheong Foundation hosts Groundbreaking Ceremony for the largest Long-Term Care Facility in Markham, on September 15 marking a significant milestone. Hon. Stan Cho, Minister of Long-Term Care, MPP Billy Pang, and Mayor Frank Scarpitti of City of Markham graced the event with their presence, ushering in the commencement of a purposeful ceremony that sets the stage for the forthcoming construction. Anticipated to be ready for occupancy in 2026, this facility will provide 320 long-term care beds and create 400 jobs when completed.
Golden Senior Celebration
Mon Sheong Golden Seniors Celebration was held at the Lobster Port Seafood Restaurant on September 24, aimed at recognizing the contributions of Community elderly to their families and society, and to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival. Over 250 guests attended the banquet, with more than a hundred seniors over the age of 75, including some centenarians, making the combined age of all attendees surpass ten thousand years.
First Centenarian Party at Stouffville Long-Term Care Centre
The Stouffville Long-Term Care Centre had been held its first-ever Centenarian Celebration for 13 residents on October 24. The seniors and their families joined this remarkable celebration with our dedicated staff and volunteers, the centre was filled with joy and laughter! A special plaque was presented to each incredible individual to commemorate a century of wisdom, love, and cherished memories.
Groundbreaking of Second Long-Term Care Centre in Stouffville
Mon Sheong Foundation hosted the groundbreaking ceremony on November 3 for the second Long-Term Care Facility in Stouffville, marking a significant milestone. Hon. Stan Cho, Minister of Long-Term Care, Hon. Paul Calandra, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing, Hon. Dr. Helena Jaczek, MP of Markham- Stouffville and Mayor Iain Lovatt of Town of Whitchurch-Stouffville graced the event with their presence, ushering in the commencement of a purposeful ceremony that sets the stage for the forthcoming construction. This ambitious undertaking involves the creation of an eight-story long-term care facility with 224 long-term care beds. Anticipated to be ready for occupancy within three years, this facility stands as a testament to the commitment to enhancing the lives of local elderly population.
Cathay Ball
Cathay Ball with the theme “Illuminating Future” was held on November 18, 2023 at Hilton Toronto/Markham Suites Conference. It was attended by close to 700 guests from across the community. The theme represents Mon Sheong’s commitment to evolve in its 60-year journey in line with the needs of the diverse community. It continuously transforms and, through various programs and services, radiates a remarkable and unique brilliance, benefiting the community.
